8 – Working with the Medicine Wheel

In this video I talk about working with the Medicine Wheel as an ally. I cover a bit about each of the directions and invite you to start working with the medicine wheel in your daily practice throughout (and beyond!) this 12-week journey.

Soul Work

The first step in this process is just to say hello. Wake up each morning, turn and face the directions and say hello to them. Ask them to be your allies. Thank them for what they bring to you every day without even asking.

EAST – Spring time, morning time, the sunrise, the beginning of life, innocence, play, curiosity, inspiration, awe, illumination, coming out of darkness and seeing the bigger picture

SOUTH – Summer time, midday, the full sun overhead, teenage years and young adulthood, beauty, authentic expression, sensuality, flowers in full bloom, wildness, connection to nature spirits and allies

WEST – Fall time, evening time, sunset, the beginning of dreamtime, middle life and mature adulthood, the harvest, abundance, gratitude, letting go, death and rebirth, transformation, the shadows, the mystery, the underworld

NORTH – Winter time, night time, elderhood, the ancestors, deep sleep, rest, stillness, quiet, integration, building strength, wisdom, healing, clarity, right action, connection to community, embodying true service

FEMININE – Earth, mother, below, unconditional love, nurturance, nourishment, grounding, receptivity, flowing, communal, mysterious, sacred destruction, creativity, intuitive

MASCULINE – Sky, father, above, expansive, solar, focused, penetrating, protective, wise, gentle, generous, giving, blessing, structured, confident, aware, expressive, bold, doing

CENTER – Heart space, center of the universe, spirit within and in all things, the Great Spirit, unification, love, trust, surrender

Remember:

The shamanic path is a path of direct revelation and these are just suggestions to help you begin to explore your relationship with each direction. Remain open to discovering what’s true and resonates for you.

Also note, some traditions put ancestors in the West, but for me they feel more aligned in the North, so that’s where we’ll be working with them in this course.
